APEMO Football Tournament in Qwaqwa – Freestate
Following the recent visit by members of the National Executive Committee at Harrismith and the resolutions which were taken thereof, the national leadership liaised with the vibrant young warriors of Qwaqwa to organize a football tournament. Financial and in-kind support was offered to make this event a success.
An exhilarating football match was held between under 15 and under 25th of the Maluti-a-Phofung Local Municipality at Qwaqwa (Freestate) on the 8th July 2023. For the first time in years, a tournament of this calibre was organized by APEMO which comprised four junior teams and eight senior teams and wherefore the final score for the juniors stood at 3-1 goal (after extra time) and 5-6 on penalties for the seniors.
The match attracted many spectators, the principal of a near by school, Mr Mofolo along with many other local dignitaries, distinguished guests, and guardians. They all were present at the local ground to witness the thrilling football matches. The matches were full of vigor and excitement. All the members of all teams gave the best of their efforts and displayed their excellent skills and performance. The captain of the under 15 squad was Sello and Mokgele was of the under 25 teams that won the tournament.
The Junior teams played knockouts until two teams were left namely EEYCCO AND MASIMONG where EECYCCO in the first half of the match led by 0-1, the last goal being hit by Tefo giving them a win . In the next Match of the under 25 Sparks United defeated Thabang FC by a margin of a single goal. Then hampers/prizes were provided to winners including balls, football kit etc.
During the course of the tournament 22 people were registered as members of APEMO giving 6 of them membership cards, which became a clear undisputed depiction that APEMO has elevated dreams of young people in Qwaqwa through such sporting activity.
